Love your blog and I feel complete now that you've sent it. Glad you're feeling strong again Dick and ready for the lambs.

The fleeces sound very interesting, your work is so rhythmic and always keeps you busy!

And so Gretchen, how about that spinning class???

Happy New Year, Nanoo Nanoo and all of you lovely ewes, rams, grumpy guy and nice lady. Here in the southern part of our state it is cold and snow covered also. Our family has been enjoying the nice lady's cookbook recipes. Stay warm. JB

Nanno Nanno - Sorry to learn about your ear trouble; I remember being similarly aflicted when I was a young child (NOT the result of hay in my ear) and having warm oil put in there. I didn't like either not feeling well OR the oil treatment. Glad you are back in the flock -- though those special treats ARE nice.
Also glad to hear the old grump is up and beginning to get around. Treat him kindly and be especially good to the nice lady.

Hej Wooly Bear!
I almost forgot to tell you. I sent an email to Dr. Joel, the vet, to tell him that I was feeling better and not to worry about me. (Cannot trust the old grumpy guy to keep the vets up to date!) He wrote right back with nice words for all the flock. Very cool having your own personal physician with whom you can communicate. I bet those humans wished their health system was as good as that! NN

Dear Wooly Bear,
At last! A chance to communicate with another ovine. (Those shepherds and their friends are usually very nice people, but don't you just get tired of them talking to you in such simple, silly words? You would think they could converse in a half way intelligent manner when they are around us!) Regardless of all their short comings, I will be happy to pass along your greetings. Best to you, your flockmates and your kind lady! NN

Dear Naaanoo Naaanoo,
Glad to hear you recovered from all that stuff in your ear. The next time you hear the big clunky boot coming into the barn, and the grumpy old guy appears, please wish him and his nice lady, and their friend a Haaaappy New Year from me, Wooly Bear and my kind lady at Wheely Wooly Farm.

Tak for jeres blog besøg. Kærlige hilsener, Dick

Hi Deb,
You asked about our cutting back on selling lambs in the future. We are definitely reducing the number of ewes we breed, which also means that we will have fewer lambs born next spring. We are doing this to make our lives a little easier (we are not getting any younger). Nonetheless there will continue to be lambs for sale in our future, just not as many. Our sale of breeding stock in recent years has been based primarily based upon word of mouth. It has been many years since we had a page on our web site concerning the sale of lambs for breeding stock, but we did at one time have such a page. Selling breeding stock over the internet is not nearly as cut and dried as, for example, selling fleeces. It usually involved lots of back and forth, lengthy correspondence. In addition to which we often know nothing about the prospective buyer until they arrived at the farm for their lambs. In most cases the people were very pleasant to deal with and will be or are excellent shepherds. But there have been a small, but significant number to whom I would never sell a lamb had I first met and known them. The problems have been exacerbated in the last couple of years by customers backing out on sales at the last minute. I do not like needlessly send very good lambs to slaughter but that is usually their fate after a last minute canceled sale.

In answer to your question, we will still have lambs for sale for breeding and pets/fiber animals, just not as many as in the past. So if you realize your dream of a few acres where you can raise sheep, we still be around for a few more years, assuming that our ages and infirmities do not put the two of us out to pasture first.

Thanks for keeping up with us on the blog. Take good care,
